Jim Simpson (1967 - 2013)

I met Jim in 1993 when we commenced MBA school together. It was wonderful to know him, and I'll be amongst many in missing him deeply.

From his obituary:
"JAMES HENRY "JIM" SIMPSON November 5, 1967 - October 19, 2013 After a brave battle with cancer, Jim died at home on October 19, 2013. He is sorely missed by his parents Glen and Jill, his daughter Hailey and her mother Theresa, his sister Susan Davis and her children Samantha and Brian and his dear friend Corinne Winnett. Jim was a longtime employee at Celestica Inc. and was Senior Director before he left to fight his cancer. He was a marathon runner, having finished 28, including two Boston Marathons. He also taught marathon running at The Running Room in Pickering. He was a proud owner of a heritage house in Whitevale and served on the Heritage Pickering Advisory Committee for a time as Chairman."

Doing a blog search, here's a mention of Jim and I running a marathon relay together. We ran as a relay team at least three times as a feature of our standard U.S. Thanksgiving trip to our friend (and former MBA professor) JK and family in Baltimore - a tradition from 1996 until Jim's first cancer diagnosis.

Here's Jenny's report prior to the funeral:
"(He had a bad cancer diagnosis in fall 2009, but thanks to amazing surgery and radiation he was able to run a triumphant 3:23:40 in Boston in April 2010. B. and I went to Boston to spectate on that occasion; it was a celebration of life. He had a few good years of remission, and then a scary recurrence last summer, so that his death comes more as a sorrow than a surprise.)"

JK delivered a moving eulogy, performing that difficult task with grace.
