The Week That Was

Tuesday: upper body (+ minor legs) weights
Wednesday: morning 1.0hr. run (zone 2/zone 3 on RPE); evening 0.75hr. run (zone 2/zone 3 on RPE - primarily zone 3)
Thursday: upper body (+ minor legs) weights
Friday: morning 1.0hr. run (zone 2 on RPE)
Saturday: upper body weights
Sunday: 0.85hr. run (zone 4 - segment of marathon relay) and 1.67hr. walking

At Wednesday Night Run Club there was a group of 3 people looking for a 4th to complete their relay team roster at the Intertrust Cayman Islands Marathon; I signed on. It was a beautiful morning on Sunday; my thanks to the volunteers, sponsors, and organizers on a great event. We were the third "mixed" relay team, so we each received a little plaque!

Congrats! Were there a lot of teams? I have never run a marathon relay before - I imagine if I was running a later leg that I would feel a little guilty passing the runners doing the whole thing!

Thanks Danielle!

There were 83 teams; ours finished 7th overall. There were 28 mixed teams, of which we finished third.

In figuring out approximate hand-off times each of us thought that over 6.55 miles we would run somewhere from 50 to 55 minutes. As it turned out we were an evenly paced team so we weren't passing even- or negative-split marathoners.
Legs 1 and 3 were short (6.4 miles) and legs 2 and 4 were long (6.7 miles) - two loop course. Our splits were:
51:45
55:44
51:58
55:40

(Our last runner faced the increasing heat of the day, so really she outran the rest of us)

At the Northern Central Trail Marathon in Baltimore in November the relay teams have an additional bib on the back that's labeled "RELAY". I found that a nice feature when I ran that marathon.
